We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience in sol-gel and organic-inorganic hybrid chemistry, and the formulation of solutions for fabricating liquid-based coatings using solution deposition techniques. The individual must be self-motivated, be able to work semi-autonomously or as a part of cross-functional team, and have a positive flexible attitude with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. This is a hands-on position where most of the chemist’s time will be spent in the company’s laboratories.
Create, formulate and reformulate custom coating formulations from basic precursor materials to meet specific customer requirements.
Characterize formulations, track solution properties and develop correlations between solution properties and coating properties/quality.
Document and summarize experiments and results in a manner that can be understood by the the team.
Provide detailed SOPs for formulation syntheses.
Work with process engineers and/or associate chemists to optimize coating quality and performance through iterative coating property/solution reformulation cycles.
Scale-up and transferring of formulation syntheses from bench to reactor scale.
Desired Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Ph.D. in Chemistry preferred, but a Ph.D. in Materials Science will be considered if the candidate has a strong background in sol-gel synthesis and formulations.
Must have at least 5 years of industrial synthesis experience.
Candidates with formulation and solution deposition experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Fundamental understanding of sol-gel chemistry is a must.
Knowledge of particle dispersions and the incorporation of particles into organic/inorganic matrices is strongly desired.
Ability to apply statistical experimental design to formulation development and analyze results.
Experience working in small teams or at a startup is a plus.
Candidates must speak and write in fluent English.
